About this role

We are seeking an airport operations specialist for Renald Y. Beaulieu Greenstone Regional Airport (CYGQ), with occasional support shifts at the R. Elmer Ruddick Nakina Airport (CYQN). The successful candidate will report to The Loomex Group’s General Manager of Airports (North) and support day-to-day operations and site safety. The role has a wage of $27.00 per hour.

Both airports are located in the Municipality of Greenstone, Ontario’s second-largest municipality. Greenstone is a world-class destination for fishing, hunting, and hiking and has been called “nature’s hometown.”

What you’ll do

  • Operate heavy equipment including tractors (and attachments), loaders, snow blowers, sweepers, and single- and tandem-axle trucks for winter and summer maintenance activities, including grass cutting, vegetation control, and snow clearing.
  • Use chainsaws, as well as hand and power tools.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and airport property.
  • Maintain records of repairs and maintenance.
  • Refuel various types of aircraft.
  • Provide Unicom advisories to air traffic and escort persons and vehicles airside.
  • Perform airfield and runway inspections.
  • Perform wildlife inspections and control.
  • Assist with emergency response, special events, and security.
  • Perform customer service duties.
  • Participate in airport training and safety programs.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Grade 12 secondary school education
  • Equipment maintenance knowledge
  • Communication skills (written and verbal) to respond to customers and to interpret instructions and procedural manuals
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to analyze situations in order to solve problems effectively
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 30 kg
  • Ability to work standing or sitting for an extended period of time while using equipment and lifting, pulling, and managing heavy objects
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Criminal record check (Level 2)

Qualifications considered an asset

  • Valid DZ license or equivalent experience
  • TP312 course or equivalent experience
  • Firearms Possession and Acquisition License
  • Current CPR and first aid training
  • Previous aviation experience
  • ROC-A license
  • Chainsaw certification

Working conditions

  • Approximately 80 per cent of work will be performed outdoors.
  • This is a full-time permanent position.
  • The incumbent will work a variety of shifts Monday to Sunday during the spring, summer, and fall.
  • Winter hours may vary based on weather conditions.
  • Each shift will include an unpaid half-hour meal break.
  • The incumbent will work additional evening, weekend, and morning shifts to meet call-out demands.
  • Working hours and schedules are subject to change.
