About this role

We are seeking an airport fleet mechanic and operator for Peterborough Airport, with occasional support duties at Kawartha Lakes Airport. The successful candidate will report to the manager of Peterborough Airport and support day-to-day operations and site safety.

The role has a wage of $25 per hour.

What you’ll do

  • Manage and complete repairs of The Loomex Group’s light- and heavy-duty equipment and vehicles. (This duty includes both scheduled and ad hoc repairs.)
  • Diagnose systems (such as engine, fuel, air, hydraulic, electrical, heating, and cooling systems).
  • Maintain heavy equipment including tractors (and attachments), loaders, snow blowers, sweepers, and single- and tandem-axle trucks.
  • Conduct repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and airport property.
  • Help the airport manager develop fleet tracking and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct annual inspections on road vehicles and complete preventative maintenance (as needed).
  • Maintain records of repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist with various tasks related to airport operations (as required).
  • Complete maintenance duties (such as snowplowing and grass-cutting) to support airport operations.

What you’ll bring to the table

  • Grade 12 secondary school education
  • 310T Heavy Truck Technician certification
  • Equipment maintenance knowledge
  • Communication skills (written and verbal) to respond to customers and to interpret instructions and procedural manuals
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to analyze problems in order to solve problems effectively
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 30 kg
  • Ability to work standing or sitting for an extended period of time while using equipment and lifting, pulling, and managing heavy objects
  • Clean driver’s abstract
  • Criminal record check (Level 2)

Qualifications considered an asset

  • 421A heavy equipment certification
  • Valid DZ license or equivalent experience
  • Firearms Possession and Acquisition License
  • Current CPR and first aid training
  • Previous aviation experience
  • ROC-A license
  • Chainsaw certification

Working conditions

  • Approximately 60 per cent of this job’s duties will be performed outdoors.
  • This is a full-time permanent position.
  • The incumbent will work a variety of shifts from Monday to Sunday during the spring, summer, and fall. Shifts will be determined according to the operational needs of the airport.
  • Winter hours may vary based on weather conditions.
  • Working hours and schedules are subject to change.
