Recovery/Business Resumption Phase

Identification of risk, a recommended action and possible ways to overcome.

Risk #2 Description: Staff show signs of fatigue, PTSD, trauma or inability to cope following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Recommended Actions Be proactive and identify potential risks within your organization related to post-crisis distress or trauma.
Examples: Encourage staff members to reach out for help. An Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or health care professional can offer support.

Fear of losing their job or losing respect from peers may prevent staff from reaching out for help. Educate others and challenge the myths and stereotypes.

Identify normal reactions to abnormal events. This will help reduce the stigma within the workplace.

Continue to offer regular check-ins and debriefs with staff. Even though you are in recovery, it is just as important now to ensure staff don’t feel isolated.

Bring in someone from outside your organization to conduct your debriefings to get a true picture of what worked well, and what areas need improvement.

Work plans will be behind, and staff will be emotionally and physically burnt out. Try and create realistic timelines to allow staff to adjust to the new normal.

Create or update your business continuity plans.

Exercise your plans to evaluate the improvements made based upon lessons learned.

Continue to monitor staff for the next 12-24 months.
